Microsoft Seizes 340 Websites Linked to Nigerian Phishing Operation

Microsoft has announced that it has taken control of nearly 340 websites connected to Raccoon0365, a phishing-as-a-service network operating out of Nigeria. The action followed a court order issued by the United States District Court in Manhattan.

The phishing network allowed users to create fake Microsoft login pages to steal account credentials. According to Microsoft, at least 5,000 Microsoft accounts were compromised through this service, which has been active since July 2024.

Raccoon0365 was managed through a private Telegram channel with over 850 subscribers. Those involved could impersonate trusted brands and send large volumes of phishing emails. In February 2025, more than 2,300 organisations across the United States were targeted in tax-related phishing campaigns.

Reports indicate that the service generated at least 100,000 US dollars in cryptocurrency payments. Microsoft has identified a Nigerian man, Joshua Ogundipe, as the leader of the network, although he has not yet publicly responded to the allegations.

The takedown was carried out in collaboration with cybersecurity companies and law enforcement agencies. Firms such as Cloudflare worked alongside Microsoft and the United States Secret Service to dismantle the phishing infrastructure.

Microsoft has cautioned that services like Raccoon0365, which provide ready-to-use phishing tools, make cybercrime more accessible and pose a rising threat to individuals and organisations.
