The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida) has cleared two major solar energy projects in Sector 8 near the upcoming Noida International Airport, paving the way for the region to become a hub for clean energy manufacturing.
“These facilities will add a combined capacity of 9 gigawatts in solar cell and module production, strengthening India’s clean energy ecosystem. We have issued letters of intent to the companies as part of the land allotment process for these crucial projects,” said RK Singh, chief executive officer of Yeida.
On Friday, Yeida issued a Letter of Intent for 25 acres to Integrated Batteries India (IB Solar), which plans to invest ₹3,000 crore to establish a 4 GW solar cell and module plant. The proposal was processed through Invest UP, the state’s single-window investment promotion body. Yeida confirmed that the allotment is subject to state policies, recommendations of the Invest UP Empowered Committee, and other approvals.
This comes weeks after another renewable energy project in the same sector. In July, SAEL Solar P6 Private Limited received clearance to set up an integrated plant on 200 acres with production capacity of 5 GW solar cells and 5 GW modules. That project, estimated at ₹8,200 crore, has already secured a Letter of Intent from Yeida and a Letter of Comfort from Invest UP.
Officials noted that both projects are in line with commitments made at the 2023 Investors’ Summit. Invest UP had earlier urged Yeida to accelerate land allocation to ensure timely progress for the IB Solar project.
Together, the two projects represent an investment of more than ₹11,000 crore. They are expected to create thousands of jobs and significantly expand India’s solar manufacturing capacity. With Jewar Airport and related infrastructure rapidly developing, Sector 8 is emerging as a strategic hub for clean energy industries along the Yamuna Expressway.
