Google has introduced a new design update for the Gemini app, bringing subtle but useful changes to improve user experience. The most noticeable change is the redesign of the prompt bar, which now appears in an open-box style instead of the older boxed layout.
Previously, Gemini prompt bar looked like a rectangular box where users typed their queries and messages. With the update, it now features only a top lid with curved edges, while the sides and bottom are removed. The lid touches the edge of the device screen and then fades away, giving users more horizontal space to type. This means a few extra characters can now fit in the same line, making the overall design more efficient.
The Gemini redesign was recently spotted on Android, with the iOS version expected to follow soon. According to early impressions, the change seems aimed at making better use of negative space while giving users a larger and cleaner area to type and view their messages.
Along with this, Google has also made changes to the tools icon. Earlier, the app and website displayed a “+” symbol that opened up all available features, including image generation, video generation for paid users, Deep Research and Canvas. With the new design, the most frequently used feature appears separately as a button or chip, while the rest are grouped within an ellipsis icon represented by three horizontal dots.
Another noticeable change is the removal of the disclaimer that previously appeared at the bottom of the Gemini prompt bar. The message, “Gemini can make mistakes, so double-check it,” was shown every time users received an AI response. The disclaimer was meant to remind users about possible AI inaccuracies, but it no longer appears in the updated design.
These design improvements reflect Google’s focus on enhancing usability and providing a cleaner, more spacious interface while keeping essential tools within easy reach.
