Apple’s latest event was all about design and innovation, with the spotlight on the new iPhone Air, the company’s thinnest iPhone yet at just 5.6mm. The sleek design required a complete internal re-engineering, but Apple has managed to fit in a strong battery by dropping the physical SIM slot. The device is powered by the new A19 Pro chip, which surpasses the base iPhone’s processor.
CEO Tim Cook said the new lineup “raises the bar once again” and is “unlike anything we have ever created.” While the iPhone 17 received incremental updates, the Air and Pro models showcased bold changes, including a rectangular camera module and vapour-cooled thermals to keep performance stable. Cook added, “Design is also how it works. This philosophy guides everything we do.”
The 6.5-inch iPhone Air comes with a ProMotion display, 3000 nits brightness and a 48MP dual fusion camera system. It also introduces an 18MP square Centrestage front camera, allowing landscape shots without rotating the device. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models focus on durability and advanced photography, offering up to 40x digital zoom and Apple’s longest optical reach yet with 8x zoom at 200mm. These models feature a 56% larger sensor, updated stabilisation and ProRes RAW video capabilities.
Apple also revealed the AirPods Pro 3 with live translation, heart rate monitoring, improved noise cancellation and enhanced audio quality. According to Apple, live translation is “enabled by advanced computational audio combined with Apple Intelligence models running on the iPhone.”
In wearables, the Apple Watch Series 11 now features a 5G modem, blood pressure monitoring, sleep scoring and better battery life, while the Apple Watch Ultra 3 introduces satellite connectivity, Emergency SOS and up to 42 hours of power. A refreshed Apple Watch SE was also announced with faster charging and extended usage.
The new lineup is priced as follows: iPhone 17 (256 GB) at Rs 82,900, iPhone Air (256 GB) at Rs 1,19,900, iPhone 17 Pro (256 GB) at Rs 1,34,900 and iPhone 17 Pro Max (256 GB) at Rs 1,49,900. The Apple Watch Series 11 starts at Rs 46,900, the Ultra 3 at Rs 89,900, and the SE at Rs 25,900. The AirPods Pro 3 are priced at Rs 25,900.
