Tamil Nadu Strengthens Economic Ties With UK Through New MoUs

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has concluded a visit to the United Kingdom that resulted in the signing of several strategic Memorandums of Understanding with major companies across key industries. The state government confirmed the agreements on Wednesday, highlighting their potential to enhance Tamil Nadu’s role as a hub for high value sectors such as aerospace, defence and maritime.

A central outcome of the visit was the engagement with Rolls Royce which will expand its presence in Tamil Nadu. The company plans to set up a maintenance repair and overhaul facility and a training centre, in addition to enlarging its joint venture IAMPL in Hosur. This expansion is expected to strengthen both industrial capability and skill development in the state.

Another notable partnership comes with Lloyd’s List Intelligence which will scale up its Global Capability Centre in Chennai. The initiative will create around 200 new jobs and reinforce Chennai’s growing position as a global services centre.

Additional collaborations include Britannia RFID’s investment in radio frequency identification technology for the garment sector. Educational agreements were also signed to promote research excellence and innovation, aimed at improving Tamil Nadu’s competitiveness in global markets.

According to the state government these MoUs mark an important step in positioning Tamil Nadu as both a national leader and a global partner in advanced industries and innovation.
