Adani Defence & Aerospace has announced its participation in India’s Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme, the country’s most ambitious effort to develop a fifth-generation stealth fighter jet. The initiative is being spearheaded by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
Ashish Rajvanshi, CEO of Adani Defence & Aerospace, confirmed that the project is currently at the Expression of Interest (EoI) stage, with responses due by September 30. He added that the AMCA is designed as a 10-year development programme, with the first aircraft expected to enter service by 2034–35, followed by serial production.
The twin-engine, multirole stealth fighter will be capable of air superiority, ground attack, and electronic warfare, marking a significant leap in India’s indigenous defence capabilities and reducing reliance on foreign suppliers.
In a policy breakthrough, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh recently approved the AMCA Execution Model, opening the programme to both public and private sector players—a first for such a large-scale fighter aircraft development project in India.
The government estimates around ₹15,000 crore will be required for the development phase, covering prototype construction, flight testing, and certification. ADA has invited industry consortiums to lead key phases, aiming for deeper collaboration between state bodies and private industry in strategic defence.
Adani’s entry signals a stronger role for private defence firms in India’s aviation ecosystem. The outcome of the EoI process will determine which consortiums move forward in shaping the next-generation AMCA fighter fleet for the Indian Air Force.
