Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang says AI may make people busier despite four-day week trials

Nvidia Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang has said the world is only at the beginning of what he calls the “AI revolution”, a transformation that could reshape work, lift productivity, and even lead to four-day working weeks. But he added a caution: people should expect to be busier, not less.

“I have to admit that I am afraid to say that we are going to be busier in the future than now,” Huang said in an interview.

He explained that artificial intelligence can complete time-consuming tasks almost instantly. Rather than freeing people to relax, it creates room to take on more work. “I am always waiting for work to get done because I have got more ideas,” he noted. “Most companies have more ideas than we know what to pursue. And so the more productive we are, the more opportunity we get to go pursue new ideas.”

Trials in the United Kingdom and North America have shown that a shorter week can succeed. Companies reported productivity gains of up to 24 per cent, with burnout halved and staff turnover sharply reduced. Employees completed the same output in 33 to 34 hours as in 40, while health, job satisfaction, and morale improved. In the Netherlands, the model is already common, with many workers on 32-hour weeks.

Huang acknowledged that while “some jobs will go away” because of AI, many more will be created. He stressed that “every job will be changed as a result of AI” and that over time “life quality will get better.” He compared the current moment with earlier industrial revolutions, each of which changed social habits, moving from seven-day to six-day, and then to five-day weeks. AI, he suggested, could now drive the next shift.

Nvidia itself is seeing historic growth, with quarterly revenues of 46.7 billion dollars and a market value above four trillion dollars, the largest in the world. Demand is high for its latest Blackwell Ultra chips, as corporations and governments invest an estimated three to four trillion dollars in AI infrastructure by the end of the decade.

Huang believes AI will touch nearly every sector, from robotics and cloud computing to autonomous vehicles and advanced manufacturing, fuelling stronger growth and higher GDP. Whether this means longer weekends remains uncertain, but he is confident AI will change how people work and live.
