CBI Arrests Three in Assam for SIM Card Fraud Under Operation Chakra

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested three people in Cachar district of Assam, including a telecom company’s Territorial Sales Manager, for their suspected role in a large SIM card fraud.

The arrests were made under Operation Chakra, a nationwide drive aimed at dismantling infrastructure that supports cybercrimes.

According to CBI investigators, the accused issued SIM cards illegally using the personal details of individuals without their knowledge or consent. These SIM cards were then sold in bulk at inflated rates to criminal groups.

CBI officials said that the illegally obtained SIM cards were later misused for several cybercrimes such as digital arrest frauds, impersonation schemes, investment scams and financial frauds linked to UPI.

Following the arrests, the CBI carried out searches at five locations in Cachar and seized multiple mobile phones, electronic gadgets and documents related to the scam.

The arrested individuals have been produced before a magistrate. The investigation is continuing as authorities work to identify and expose more details of the network behind this crime.
