Mayank Gupta has been appointed Group Chief Financial Officer at CarDekho Group. He brings with him more than twenty years of leadership experience across global corporations and high-growth start-ups. In his new role, he will guide CarDekho’s financial strategy, strengthen governance, and lead IPO readiness as the company moves into its next phase of expansion.
Gupta has previously worked with Tata 1mg, where he played a key role in the strategic stake sale to the Tata Group. He also held a senior leadership position at Ecom Express Limited, where he helped the company grow four times profitably while raising multiple funding rounds. At Ecom Express, he managed a team of more than 170 professionals across finance, legal, procurement, administration, and secretarial functions.
This appointment marks Gupta’s return to CarDekho Group, where he earlier served as Group CFO from 2021 to 2024. During that period, he helped the company achieve profitability, raised capital, and set up a governance framework aligned with public market standards. His efforts were important in strengthening the company’s financial structure as it expanded across products and markets.
Before rejoining CarDekho, Gupta served as Chief Financial Officer at Jindal Steel and Power Limited, where he oversaw financial operations and compliance during a phase of strategic change. He also worked as Group CFO at Z47, formerly Matrix Partners India, where he introduced financial discipline to the private equity firm’s portfolio and operations.
Gupta’s early career includes thirteen years at GE, where he was part of the leadership programme and worked as CFO for three South Asia businesses. During this time, he played a significant role in securing GE’s largest India deal, a three billion dollar “Make in India” project with Indian Railways. At Maruti Suzuki India Limited, one of his first roles, he managed one of the country’s largest income tax cases and helped automate vendor payments.
Outside his executive career, Gupta is also a public market investor and angel investor. His portfolio includes technology-driven start-ups in areas such as direct-to-consumer, SaaS, fintech, and health-tech. A Chartered Accountant and an All-India rank holder, he is a graduate of Shri Ram College of Commerce, University of Delhi.
