BSNL Introduces Nationwide Network Level Anti Spam and Anti Smishing Service

BSNL has introduced a new nationwide network level anti spam and anti smishing service for all mobile customers. The service works automatically without requiring any action from users. It detects and blocks malicious links in SMS messages at the network stage before they reach the user’s phone. Genuine messages such as one time passwords, banking alerts and government notifications continue to be delivered through the regulated DLT and UCC framework.

The solution has been developed in partnership with an Indian cloud communications company. It combines artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing, reputation intelligence and link expansion technology. It works together with India’s blockchain based DLT system to control unwanted commercial messages.

According to BSNL, the system blocks more than 1.5 million scam messages daily. It also detects over 35,000 unique phishing links and flags more than 60,000 fraudulent WhatsApp and mobile numbers every month. The company says the service has an efficiency rate of more than 99 percent, making it one of the most effective anti smishing solutions in India.

Customers do not need to download any application or change any settings. The protection is active by default for all BSNL mobile subscribers in service areas where the network is live.

The system was first presented at the India Mobile Congress in 2024 and is now being deployed across all BSNL circles as part of its upgrade programme.

BSNL stated that this initiative will help reduce the chances of credential theft, payment fraud and identity theft, showing the company’s focus on providing secure and reliable telecom services to its customers.
