Kodiak Robotics, Inc. has appointed Mohamed “Mo” Elshenawy, former president and chief technology officer of Cruise LLC, to its board of directors. His addition comes as the autonomous trucking company gears up for a planned public listing through a business combination with Ares Acquisition Corporation II.
Elshenawy brings over two decades of experience in engineering leadership, artificial intelligence, and product development. At Cruise, he was instrumental in advancing autonomous vehicle technology and led the launch of the company’s driverless rideshare service in San Francisco. Currently, he serves as chief technology officer at Hims & Hers Health, Inc., focusing on AI-driven healthcare platforms.
Kodiak CEO and founder Don Burnette welcomed the appointment, highlighting Elshenawy’s industry expertise. “Mo’s technical expertise and leadership will be instrumental as we continue to scale our autonomous trucking technology,” Burnette said.
Before his role at Cruise, Elshenawy held senior engineering positions at Amazon. He holds more than 10 patents related to AI, robotics, and autonomous systems, and currently serves on the Software Advisory Board at Mercedes-Benz and as an independent board director at Wasoko-MaxAB.
Elshenawy appointment follows other recent board additions, including Ken Goldman and Kristin Sverchek, as part of Kodiak’s broader preparations for becoming a public company.
The proposed business combination with Ares Acquisition Corporation II is expected to close in the second half of 2025, subject to shareholder approval and regulatory clearance. Once completed, the merged entity will be renamed Kodiak AI, Inc., and trade under new ticker symbols, pending final exchange approval.
