Dhruva Space, a Hyderabad-based space technology company, is set to launch one of the largest satellite mass production facilities in India. The 280,000 sq ft facility in Telangana will focus on assembly, integration, and testing, enabling the mass production of satellites up to 500 kg.
Founder and CEO Sanjay Nekkanti said, “We felt that there was a need to focus on creating infrastructure which doesn’t exist in the country. We are quite excited for the future.” The company works with over 500 vendors and aims for the facility to strengthen and accelerate their contributions. Dhruva is also backed by institutional investments, a Rs 123 crore Series A funding round, and targeted government grants.
Founded in 2012, Dhruva Space provides end-to-end solutions across the space, launch, and ground segments for both civilian and defence clients. Initially focusing on small satellites and CubeSat subsystems, the company now offers modular satellite platforms, orbital deployers, communications systems, mission integration services, and commercial imagery solutions. Its client base spans government bodies, universities, and private companies worldwide.
Dhruva has partnered with organisations in France, Australia, and India, including Kinéis, Comat, Akula Tech, Esper Satellites, and ISRO. It is also working with French firm Sodern on a satellite mission scheduled for 2026.
One of its key innovations is the Solis+ solar power module, which offers improved packing efficiency and revolvable arrays to support high-power missions. “Imagine if there were a football field-sized solar panel in space. It can’t just be deployed as a solid panel. This is why we are developing a revolvable type of panel,” explained Nekkanti.
The company plans to expand into building larger satellites while exploring emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and advanced manufacturing for space applications. Though Dhruva has no human spaceflight projects at present, Nekkanti said, “Human spaceflight has a close place in our heart. We hope that we can play an important and meaningful role in human space exploration from India.”
With export successes in Australia, the UAE, and Europe, Dhruva aims to become a leading satellite manufacturer and service provider for both Indian and global markets. “Space is a possibility left to how we would like to explore it… The future is bright,” said Nekkanti.
