McDonald’s has announced plans to significantly scale up its investment in artificial intelligence by 2027, with India playing a major role in the company’s global AI strategy. The focus will be on enhancing data governance, engineering and platform architecture capabilities from India.
According to Deshant Kaila, Head of Global Business Services Operations at McDonald’s, the company will be “doubling down” on AI in the next few years. He shared this update during a recent event, stating, “We are still in the early stages, so it is hard to pin down the exact investment.” However, he confirmed that India will serve as a central hub for the company’s AI development.
The fast-food giant plans to prioritise its investments in technology and tools, rather than simply increasing the size of its workforce. Kaila clarified that the strategy is focused on building and strengthening McDonald’s AI team in India, with an emphasis on capabilities rather than headcount.
This move highlights McDonald’s broader vision of embedding advanced technologies into its operations to improve efficiency, customer experience and innovation. By leveraging India’s strong tech talent and expertise in data and engineering, the company aims to accelerate its digital transformation journey.
India’s growing reputation as a global technology centre has made it an ideal location for McDonald’s AI expansion, particularly in building robust digital platforms that support the company’s global business operations.
