China Successfully Launches PRSS-01, Pakistan’s First Exclusive Remote Sensing Satellite

In a major development for Pakistan’s space and disaster management capabilities, China on Thursday launched the Remote Sensing Satellite-1 (PRSS-01), the first satellite of its kind dedicated exclusively to Pakistan. The launch took place at the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre in Sichuan province, using the Kuaizhou 1A rocket.

Following lift-off, PRSS-01 was successfully placed into its designated orbit, and all onboard systems were confirmed to be functioning properly. The satellite is designed to support several critical applications in Pakistan, including agriculture and land surveys, urban planning, disaster response, and environmental monitoring. This marks a significant step in Pakistan’s journey towards strengthening its space programme.

Equipped with high-resolution imaging systems, PRSS-01 will offer detailed data to support both civilian and government operations. It is expected to boost Pakistan’s ability to quickly respond to natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods. The satellite will also aid in long-term planning, helping to guide infrastructure projects and promote sustainable development.

The mission also reflects growing space collaboration between China and Pakistan. Engineers from both countries worked closely on the satellite’s development and launch, with China providing key technological support. The project builds on previous cooperation in satellite communications and scientific research between China, Pakistan, and Algeria.

The successful deployment of PRSS-01 highlights Pakistan’s progress in space technology and deepens China’s strategic partnership with countries along the Belt and Road Initiative. It also marks China’s expanding role in international aerospace, as the country continues to move from being a large-scale space power to a more advanced and influential one.

Industry experts believe this launch will lead to a new era in satellite services for Pakistan, improving national development and technological self-reliance.
