India’s DoT Unveils Ambitious Policy to Boost Telecoms Coverage and Exports by 2030

India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has outlined a new, ambitious policy designed to significantly boost telecoms coverage across the nation and enhance its position in the global telecom market. The policy sets aggressive targets for achieving 100% population coverage with 4G and 90% coverage with 5G by 2030.

The comprehensive policy framework details ten strategic objectives to be realized within the next five years. Among these key goals are plans to double the export of telecom products and services, signaling India’s intent to become a major player in global telecom manufacturing and solutions. Additionally, the DoT aims to double the number of telecommunications startups in the country, fostering a vibrant ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship.

A strong emphasis of the new policy is placed on enhancing rural connectivity. This includes a crucial objective to increase the fiberisation of telecom towers from the current 46% to an impressive 80%. Furthermore, the policy mandates 100% fiberisation of all Gram Panchayats (village councils), ensuring robust internet access even in the most remote areas.

“This new policy is a testament to our commitment to digital inclusion and economic growth,” stated a DoT official. “By setting clear targets for coverage, exports, and innovation, we are laying the groundwork for a truly connected India and a thriving domestic telecom industry.”

The policy reflects India’s strategic vision to leverage telecommunications as a catalyst for overall national development, bridging the digital divide, and strengthening its technological prowess on the world stage.
