Income Tax Raids 200+ Sites Over Fake Political Donation Claims

The Income Tax Department has launched large-scale search operations across more than 200 locations across India in connection with false political donation claims and fraudulent tax deductions under Section 80GGC of the Income Tax Act.

Officials said the action follows the discovery of several bogus bills submitted by intermediaries, claiming deductions for political contributions that were never made. Section 80GGC allows taxpayers to claim deductions for donations made to registered political parties. However, recent findings indicate widespread misuse of this provision

According to sources, the ongoing searches also cover fake claims made under other categories such as medical expenses and tuition fees. The raids are focused on individuals and entities suspected of generating and using fake documents to secure tax benefits illegally.

Sources further revealed in raid that multiple intermediaries were involved in fabricating donation receipts and manipulating records to help taxpayers reduce their tax liability. The Income Tax Department is closely examining the evidence gathered from the raids and is expected to take further legal action based on the findings.

These coordinated raid highlight the government’s efforts to curb tax evasion and ensure transparency in political donations and other tax deduction claims.
