The Vizag Science & Technology Cluster (VSTC), located at the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ), is playing a key role in driving collaboration between science, industry, and innovation, said Jitendra Sharma, Managing Director and Founder-CEO of AMTZ.
Speaking at a high-level meeting in New Delhi recently, Sharma highlighted how AMTZ is turning this collaboration into self-reliant healthcare solutions that contribute to the vision of ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’. The information was shared in an official press release on Saturday (June 28).
Led by AMTZ, the Vizag cluster brings together researchers, startups, industries, and academic institutions to deliver large-scale technological impact. “The cluster has launched several impactful initiatives,” Sharma noted.
One of these initiatives is a sustainable e-waste management project called ‘e-yantram’, being developed in partnership with the National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML). This facility focuses on scientific methods for collecting, dismantling, and recycling electronic waste.
In the area of cardiac care, the cluster has made progress in indigenous technology with the development of pacemaker leads through technology transfer, he added.
Sharma also spoke about how the cluster is building stronger connections between industry and academia through efforts like the Vizag S\&T Cluster Industry Meet.
During the meeting, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, Ajay Sood, released the Science and Technology Clusters Annual Report for 2024–25. The report features the Vizag Science & Technology Cluster as one of India’s eight strategic innovation hubs launched in 2024.
The annual report also highlights the key contributions of other clusters based in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, NCR, Jodhpur, Bhubaneswar, and Chandigarh, in addition to Visakhapatnam.
