Samsung Drops to 4th in Global Smartwatch Market Q1 2025

Samsung’s position in the global smartwatch market has taken a hit. According to a recent market research report, the South Korean tech company is no longer among the top three brands for smartwatches and smart bands worldwide in the first quarter of 2025.

While Samsung continues to lead in the Wear OS smartwatch segment with its latest offerings like the Galaxy Watch 7 and the Galaxy Watch Ultra, the overall performance in the wrist-worn smart device market has been less than impressive. The company shipped 3.4 million units of Galaxy smart bands and smartwatches in Q1 2025. This accounts for a 7.5 percent market share and places Samsung in fourth position globally.

This marks a decline from Q1 2024, where Samsung shipped 3.6 million wrist-worn smart devices and held an 8.8 percent market share. The drop in shipments and market share reflects a worrying trend for the brand.

Apple, Samsung’s main competitor in the smartwatch space, shipped 7 million Apple Watches in the same period. This gave Apple a 15.5 percent market share and a strong year-over-year growth of 37.2 percent.

Leading the global rankings are Huawei and Xiaomi. Huawei shipped 10 million units with a 21.9 percent market share, while Xiaomi followed closely with 8.7 million units and a 19 percent share. Both brands also saw an impressive 42 percent year-over-year growth.

Samsung is now looking ahead with hope. The tech giant is expected to launch its next-generation smartwatches on July 9, 2025. The upcoming devices, possibly the Galaxy Watch 8 and the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, may help the company regain its standing in the competitive market.
