Hackers have targeted the mobile application of Aditya Birla Capital Digital (ABCD) and managed to steal digital gold worth nearly ₹1.95 crore from the accounts of 435 customers, reported by media.
The incident came to light on June 9, after several customers contacted the company’s call centre, raising concerns that their digital gold holdings had been sold without their knowledge or permission. The unexpected complaints triggered panic within the company, following which an internal investigation was launched by the technical team.
After a detailed probe, the company registered a first information report (FIR) with the police.
As per media reports, the company has restored the affected customer accounts and replenished their balances.
The breach has once again raised concerns over the security of digital financial platforms. Cybersecurity experts have repeatedly warned that as more people turn to digital investments like digital gold, companies must step up efforts to safeguard customer assets from cyberattacks.
