AstraZeneca Invests Rs 166 Crore in Bengaluru Global Hub

AstraZeneca has announced a fresh investment of Rs 166 crore to expand its Global Hub in Bengaluru, strengthening its commitment to India’s innovation ecosystem. This expansion will add 400 new jobs, taking the total headcount at the hub to nearly 1300 employees.

The British-Swedish pharmaceutical company said the Bengaluru facility will support its global capabilities in research and development, global business services, IT and digital health, with a strong focus on AI-powered innovation. The expansion reflects AstraZeneca’s strategy to leverage India’s growing pool of scientific and tech talent.

Across its Global Hub in Bengaluru and the Global Innovation and Technology Centre in Chennai, AstraZeneca India Pvt Ltd will employ close to 4,000 professionals, highlighting India’s increasing importance in its global operations.

“Our Global Hub in Bangalore is a strategic investment that will play a vital role in advancing AstraZeneca’s bold ambition to deliver 20 new medicines by 2030,” said Jackie Crockford, Vice President, Global Business Services. “We’re tapping into Karnataka’s world-class talent to power the next generation of scientific innovation.”

AstraZeneca said the Bengaluru hub will serve as a nerve centre for advanced clinical research across its global therapeutic areas, AI-enabled healthcare solutions, digital health technologies, and centralised data analytics. It will also support global regulatory compliance and pharmacovigilance to improve clinical trials and patient outcomes.

“This expansion will accelerate the development of innovative medicines and help us deliver across R&D, ultimately benefiting patients around the world,” said Magnus Nord, Vice President, Global Patient Safety BioPharma.

Karnataka’s health minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said AstraZeneca’s latest investment reflects India’s growing leadership in science, technology and healthcare.

The new facility is also aligned with AstraZeneca’s sustainability goals. It is designed to achieve LEED Platinum certification, will run on 75 percent green energy and is equipped with IoT-enabled energy management and full wastewater recycling.
