Ghufran Alam says AI lifts Samsung India’s home appliance sales to 50% mark

Artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled products now account for half of Samsung India’s home appliance sales, and the firm anticipates that by 2025, this market would account for 70% of its total income.

“Our journey has been very fruitful, with AI-enabled appliances making up 12 per cent of our overall home appliance sales at the start. We have got to a level of 50 per cent and are looking forward to having a 70 per cent contribution to our overall revenue from AI-enabled products,” said Ghufran Alam, vice-president, digital appliances business, Samsung India.

He clarified that the company’s 12-kilogram (kg) front-loading washer only made up 2% of the market for front-loading washers when it was introduced last year. Its contribution has increased to 12% as of today.

“I think we created the market, we took the lead, and we’re now reaping the benefits,” Alam said. He went on to say that the business intends to use the same strategy for 25 kg washing machines, developing and subsequently dominating the market for models with larger capacities. Alam further noted that the premiumization tendency has accelerated after the outbreak.

Samsung India’s internal projections indicate that this year’s total increase for refrigerators and washing machines would be in the single digits. Nonetheless, the industry’s premium AI-enabled product growth is in the double digits, indicating that premium goods will continue to gain market share.

The Bespoke AI Laundry Combo All-in-One, Bespoke AI Refrigerator with AI Home, Bespoke AI Double-Door Refrigerator, Bespoke AI WindFree Air Conditioner, and Bespoke AI Top Load Washer are among the bespoke AI home appliances that Samsung India has planned for the year.
