Airtel’s AI Fraud Shield Protects 1.6 Million Users in Kerala, Blocks Millions of Malicious Links Nationwide

Bharti Airtel, one of India’s leading telecommunications companies, has announced a significant achievement in its fight against digital fraud, with its advanced AI-powered fraud detection system successfully safeguarding over 1.6 million users across Kerala within just 35 days of its launch.

The cutting-edge system, which is automatically enabled for all Airtel mobile and broadband customers, operates by continuously scanning and filtering links across various digital platforms. It meticulously examines over 1 billion URLs daily, demonstrating remarkable speed by blocking harmful sites in under 100 milliseconds. This proactive approach significantly enhances the online safety of its vast subscriber base.

Gokul J, COO, Kerala, Bharti Airtel, said, “The AI-based fraud detection solution will be vital for scaling our abilities in this field and for providing new and creative solutions to meet customers’ most urgent requirements. We believe that our solution will offer a strong defence to customers in Kerala against cyber fraud, enabling them to navigate the digital world with confidence.”

A key feature contributing to its effectiveness in Kerala, a state known for its linguistic diversity, is the system’s ability to deliver fraud warnings in the user’s preferred language, including Malayalam. This localized communication ensures that warnings are clear and immediately understood, empowering users to recognize and avoid potential threats more easily.

The success in Kerala is part of a broader national impact since the system’s activation. In the same 35-day period, Airtel’s AI-driven platform has successfully blocked more than 188,000 malicious links and shielded a staggering 86 million users across the country from various online scams and fraudulent activities. This initiative underscores Airtel’s commitment to leveraging artificial intelligence to build a more secure digital environment for its customers.
