Salesforce to Buy Informatica for $8 Billion to Boost AI Power

In a bold step to deepen its roots in artificial intelligence, Salesforce has announced its decision to acquire cloud data management firm Informatica for a whopping $8 billion. The move is designed to empower its vision of intelligent, autonomous systems powered by deep, clean, and connected data.

The deal, confirmed Tuesday, sparked movement in the market as Salesforce shares climbed over 1 percent, while Informatica saw a 6 percent boost. Speculation about the acquisition surfaced last week and caused Informatica’s stock to surge more than 17 percent.

With this acquisition, holders of Informatica’s Class A and Class B-1 common shares will receive a payout of $25 in cash per share. Salesforce plans to finance the deal through a blend of its existing cash reserves and newly acquired debt.

Steve Fisher, Salesforce’s president and CTO, emphasized the importance of unifying data to support advanced AI systems. “Truly autonomous, trustworthy AI agents need the most comprehensive understanding of their data,” he shared. “The combination of Informatica’s advanced catalog and metadata capabilities with our Agentforce platform delivers exactly this.”

This move aligns perfectly with Salesforce’s broader ambition to integrate Informatica’s expertise in data cataloging, integration, privacy, governance, and cloud data management with its agentic AI solution called Agentforce.

Marc Benioff, the visionary CEO of Salesforce, highlighted how this acquisition will strengthen the company’s ecosystem. He expressed that Informatica will seamlessly join forces with Salesforce’s Data Cloud, MuleSoft, and Tableau to “enable autonomous agents to deliver smarter, safer, and more scalable outcomes for every company.”

This acquisition joins a long list of high-profile purchases made by Salesforce over the years. Notably, the company acquired Slack for $27.7 billion in 2021, Tableau for $15.7 billion in 2019, and MuleSoft for $6.5 billion in 2018. Each deal has been a step in building a grander tapestry of intelligent, interconnected enterprise solutions.

With this latest addition, Salesforce’s journey into the heart of AI becomes even more intricate, setting the stage for a future where machines not only serve but also understand.
