Sonos Sees India as the Heartbeat of Its Premium Audio Expansion

Sonos is turning up the volume in India, placing the country at the core of its global growth journey in the high-end audio space. Riding a wave of strong sales and a rising appetite for premium sound experiences, the brand is crafting a future where Indian homes resonate with cinema-grade sound.

Following the debut of the new Arc Ultra soundbar and Sub 4 subwoofer in India, two leading voices from Sonos — Sara Lincoln, Principal Product Manager, and Rennie Addabbo, General Manager for the Asia Pacific region — shared how the Indian market is not just shaping local product strategies but also influencing Sonos’s global vision.

The Arc Ultra brings to life what Lincoln describes as “Sound Motion Technology,” a leap in sonic performance. “It delivers twice the bass output of the original Arc at 50 Hz, all in a more compact size,” she said. Its refined design spreads sound wider and higher, with intelligent speech clarity features ensuring that every whisper and word is crisp, even at peak volume. A blend of advanced waveguides and featherweight transducers makes this possible.

Meanwhile, the Sub 4 subwoofer takes the beloved Sonos design language and enhances what lies within. “We didn’t overhaul the look because our industrial-design philosophy is enduring,” Lincoln noted. The engineering team focused instead on precision and punch, refining internal components to deliver bass that’s rich, clean, and space-efficient.

Rennie Addabbo revealed a telling metric: “We sell two and a half times more Arc than Beam in India.” This signals a clear preference among Indian buyers for high-end home theatre solutions. The success of the Arc series highlights a maturing market where premium quality is no longer a luxury but a lifestyle.

However, Addabbo pointed out that local regulatory approval remains the final step before a product can launch in India. “The only thing between those global dates and us launching here is local certification — BIS regulations, paperwork,” he explained. Sonos is actively working with authorities to streamline this process and align Indian launch timelines with global ones.

India is no longer just a market for Sonos. It is a compass guiding the brand’s pursuit of sound that stirs the soul.
