Adani’s Green Leap India Welcomes Its First Hydrogen-Powered Cargo Truck

In a moment that feels like the future quietly arriving, the Adani Group has set the wheels of change in motion by launching what is being called India’s first hydrogen fuel cell-powered truck. This new chapter in India’s transport narrative began on a calm Saturday morning in Raipur, as Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai flagged off the gleaming green machine that promises a cleaner and quieter tomorrow.

This pioneering truck will now carry coal from the Gare Pelma III Block to the state’s power plant, but its role goes far beyond logistics. With a promise to reshape the conversation around sustainable cargo transport, the vehicle is equipped with smart technology, three hydrogen tanks and can haul up to 40 tons across a 200 kilometer stretch.

An official statement from Adani Enterprises revealed that this revolutionary project is a joint effort involving both Indian and international energy innovators along with a leading automobile manufacturer. It marks the beginning of a strategic transition away from diesel, with the goal of gradually introducing these zero-emission trucks into the group’s large-scale logistics network.

In the words of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, “The launch of India’s first hydrogen-powered truck in Chhattisgarh reflects the state’s commitment to sustainability. Such initiatives will significantly reduce our carbon footprint and set a new standard for industry. Chhattisgarh is not only at the forefront in meeting the country’s electricity demands but also leads by example in adopting sustainable practices.”

Adani Enterprises secured the role of mine developer and operator for the Gare Pelma III Block after a competitive bidding round by the Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Limited.

Dr. Vinay Prakash, CEO of Natural Resources and Director at Adani Enterprises, added, “The initiative for hydrogen-powered trucks is a significant step towards Adani Group’s commitment to decarbonization and responsible mining. We are creating model mines with minimal environmental impact by incorporating autonomous dozer push technologies, solar power, digital initiatives, and tree transplanters to relocate trees. We aim to ensure affordable and reliable electricity for all while pioneering new standards in sustainable mining practices.”

Adani’s milestone marks a bold push towards clean energy where hydrogen, the most abundant element in the universe, releases only water vapor and warm air, ushering in an era where progress and the planet walk hand in hand.
