Wishing Mr. H. John Pounardjian greater responsibilities and exciting challenges in this impressive new chapter!
A new chapter of visionary leadership unfolds as H. John Pounardjian, MBA, joins the distinguished Rutgers Cancer Institute and RWJBarnabas Health as Chief Financial and Administrative Officer and Deputy Director for Administration and Planning. His appointment follows an extensive nationwide search and marks the succession of Linda Tanzer, whose remarkable 30-year tenure leaves behind a powerful legacy.
With a wealth of experience in financial stewardship and organizational leadership at a national level, Pounardjian will become a vital member of the executive team. He will guide strategic planning, oversee operations, and seek new growth avenues across the institute’s multifaceted mission that spans patient care, research, education and outreach. His expertise promises to elevate operational performance as Rutgers Cancer Institute prepares to unveil the Jack and Sheryl Morris Cancer Center, the state’s only standalone cancer hospital.
“John’s exceptional expertise in administration and finance within an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center will enhance our leadership team as we prepare to open New Jersey’s only freestanding cancer hospital,” said Dr. Steven K. Libutti, Director of Rutgers Cancer Institute and Senior Vice President of Oncology Services at RWJBarnabas Health. “We are extremely grateful to Linda Tanzer for her many years of service to Rutgers Cancer Institute and her leadership in building the foundation of one of the country’s leading NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers.”
Previously, Pounardjian held a senior role at Case Western Reserve University in Ohio, serving as Associate Vice President and Associate Director for Administration at their renowned NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. He is widely recognized across the nation, serving on several external advisory boards and as a reviewer for major NIH and NCI panels.
Reflecting on his new journey, Pounardjian shared, “I am thrilled to come to the East Coast to join Rutgers Cancer Institute and RWJBarnabas Health during a transformative time in its history. From my first visit, I was impressed with the team Dr. Libutti has built and look forward to working together to change the face of cancer care and research in New Jersey and beyond.”
Pounardjian officially begins this new role on June 1, bringing hope, precision and promise to the future of cancer innovation.
