Maharashtra CM launched chatbot, documentary to boost awareness on online crime

Maharashtra has the most cutting-edge cybersecurity infrastructure in the nation, according to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also emphasized the need of residents being alert of online crimes on Thursday.

Fadnavis was giving a speech at the premiere of the documentary on cyber awareness and the artificial intelligence chatbot developed by Maharashtra Cyber. Maharashtra Cyber is a state police force cybercrime detection agency. It acts as the state’s central office for cybersecurity upkeep and criminal investigation.

“Maharashtra has the most advanced cybersecurity facilities in the country. Through this (chatbot and documentary), efforts are being made to protect people from cybercrimes and human trafficking,” Fadnavis said. This time, a cybersecurity documentary was screened. This Marathi and Hindi documentary features actors Sharad Kelkar and Amisha Patel.

Maharashtra Cyber’s 1945 helpline is connected to their chatbot. This chatbot will provide information on cybercrime and how to lodge a complaint. According to the CM, there are many calls pertaining to cyber fraud, and each one needs to be handled carefully.

“Therefore, chatbots and documentaries are important to answer such calls and provide information to citizens. Awareness is necessary to prevent cybercrimes before they happen. The participation of actors like Sharad Kelkar and actress Amisha Patel in such work will send a good message to citizens,” he added.

In the future, he added, public awareness should be raised to stop occurrences like persons being kidnapped and sold overseas under false pretenses of work. According to him, the Maharashtra Cyber should engage in public awareness campaigns to prevent cruel practices like human trafficking. According to Kelkar, raising awareness of cybersecurity and cybercrime is essential.

“I am happy to be a part of this initiative, and this will create awareness on a large scale. The cyber security helpline number launched by Maharashtra Cyber is useful in the present times,” he said. Patel said in this era of digitisation, it was necessary to curb the incidents of cybercrime.
