The Government of Telangana, in collaboration with NITI Frontier Tech Hub (FTH), an initiative of NITI Aayog devoted to advancing India’s leadership in frontier technologies through human-centric innovation, is poised to launch a strategic initiative to accelerate the quantum technology ecosystem in Hyderabad, building upon its reputation as a leader in emerging technologies.
The United Nations is commemorating 100 years of quantum research and technology in 2025 with its International Year of Quantum. In an effort to position Telangana as a premier quantum state, the Telangana government released a Quantum Frontier Tech Charter in collaboration with NITI FTH on the eve of World Quantum Day, April 14. In order to support India’s goal of becoming a leader in next-generation technologies, this program seeks to establish a world-class quantum innovation ecosystem in Telangana.
The mission of the Quantum Frontier Tech charter is to advance quantum computing, communication, sensing, and security research, innovation, and practical applications. In order to solve issues in vital industries including cybersecurity, healthcare, finance, materials science, and logistics, it will also concentrate on quantum skills and quantum security across all of these pillars.
By offering strategic insights, suggesting use cases, and facilitating international partnerships, the NITI Frontier Tech Hub (FTH) will work with the Government of Telangana to catalyze this project. It will assist in the governance of moonshot programs, exchange best practices, and support their design.
Through the use of a collaborative paradigm, this project will incorporate input from industry, the Government of Telangana, NITI FTH, and other stakeholders. It will also involve notable local ecosystem partners, such as IIIT Hyderabad and the Quantum Ecosystems Technology Council of India (QETCI). Strategic supervision and direction will be provided by an Advisory Board made up of eminent national and international authorities from academia, industry, and government.
In order to promote knowledge exchange and community development within the quantum ecosystem, this program will also host a number of events throughout the year. This year, it also intends to convene a Quantum Computing Global Summit, which will bring together international industry players, researchers, policymakers, and thought leaders.
Duddilla Sridhar Babu, Hon’ble Minister for Information Technology, Electronics and Communications, Industries & Commerce, Government of Telangana, said, “This strategic partnership is a giant leap towards making our state a center for futuristic technologies. It reinforces our commitment to making Telangana a global innovation ecosystem by embracing frontier technologies and turning them into tools for public good.”
“Quantum technology represents a revolutionary opportunity for India. This initiative is integral to creating a scalable and globally competitive Quantum ecosystem, catalysing India’s path towards technological self- reliance and sustainable development. This initiative exemplifies our commitment to working with states to promote innovation excellence and achieving Viksit Bharat by 2047,” said Debjani Ghosh, Distinguished Fellow, NITI Aayog.
This is a major step in achieving the objectives of the National Quantum Mission and India’s aim of achieving scientific excellence and strategic innovation to become a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
