Received 67 proposals to build AI models trained on Indian datasets MoS IT informed the Lok Sabha

To develop cutting-edge foundational AI models trained on Indian datasets, the government has received bids from 67 organizations until February 15, the ministry of electronics and information technology told the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

The minister of state for electronics and information technology, Jitin Prasada, told the Lok Sabha in a written response to a question that of the 67 proposals, 22 are centered on large language models and large multimodal models, while the remaining 45 are proposals to develop domain-specific small language models.

“The majority of small language models (SLMs) target key sectors such as healthcare, education, and financial services. Along with funding support, a wide range of graphics processing units (GPUs) have been requested by teams submitting these proposals,” Prasada said in his reply.

The government established the India AI datasets platform, AIKosh, on March 6 to assist businesses that have asked to develop these fundamental AI models using datasets unique to India. By combining datasets from all current data platforms, enrolling non-government data providers, and offering AI-centric features, it is intended to serve as a single data platform.

In answer to another query on Wednesday, Prasada stated that the AIKosh platform now provides a huge collection of 300 datasets that are collected from 12 different industries and comprise more than 150 AI models that are supplied by five different businesses.

“Additionally, the platform provides over 10 toolkits comprising development utilities for project integration, as well as tutorials to help users understand and navigate its features,” he said.
