Hyundai Motor Company Australia (HMCA) has announced the appointment of Don Romano as its new President and CEO, effective March 10, 2025. Romano, a seasoned veteran with 40 years of experience in the automotive industry, steps into the role after a successful decade-long leadership as President and CEO of Hyundai Auto Canada (HAC).
Romano’s appointment follows the completion of Ted Lee’s successful three-year tenure as HMCA CEO. Lee will continue his work in Australia, transitioning into an Executive Support role as Chief Executive Coordinator (CEC).
During his leadership at HAC, Romano led the company through a period of remarkable growth and success, guiding both the Hyundai and Genesis brands. His commitment to fostering a customer-focused approach, along with his strong support for the dealer network, helped Hyundai Canada achieve record-breaking milestones.
Romano is also known for his dedication to building an inclusive corporate culture and driving employee engagement. His leadership has earned him numerous accolades, including the North American Champion for Diversity, Automotive All Star for Process Architecture, and Canada Black Book’s Industry Icon Award. Additionally, he received the Women’s Executive Network Alliance Ally of Excellence Award last year. Under his leadership, HAC was recognized as one of Canada’s Top 50 Best Workplaces™ by the Great Place to Work™ Institute for seven consecutive years.
