Pavan Pidugu was officially sworn in as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) on February 18, 2025. With a wealth of experience spanning over 20 years, Pidugu brings a transformative vision and a proven track record in driving technological innovation, particularly in the retail sector. Before joining the federal government in 2020, he worked with leading global companies such as Target, NCR, and Walmart, where he led significant technological advancements.
Pavan is known for his belief that technology, when combined with the right people and processes, can lead to meaningful transformation. He has demonstrated this by successfully leading the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) as its Chief Technology Officer, where he redefined how technology is developed and implemented within a federal agency. His expertise and leadership have earned him recognition, including the prestigious World 100 Technology Leaders 2024 award.

Designing a results-driven digital strategy for FMCSA to enhance safety in commercial vehicle transportation.
Spearheading Walmart’s international digital and omnichannel customer experience transformation, incorporating design thinking and product management principles.
Managing the development and rollout of a global point-of-sale system at Walmart, using a data-driven, decision-making approach.
Establishing and growing an IT development center in India at Target, expanding from 5 to 500 employees in just two years.
Leading the creation of omnichannel product roadmaps and strategic solutions for NCR’s retail clients.
Pavan’s leadership is grounded in his focus on aligning technology with business goals, creating future-proof solutions, and developing the next generation of technology leaders.
