Google Pay pilots personalised fashion shopping with AI features in India

Google is exploring new ways to bring fashion and lifestyle shopping into everyday digital payments. The company is testing Discover Shop, a new feature on Google Pay that offers personalised product recommendations, AI-powered virtual try-on and visual search. The pilot is currently available to a limited number of users in India, with no confirmed timeline for a wider rollout.

Discover Shop brings virtual try-on and visual search to Google Pay

Google announced the pilot in a blog post on Monday. The new section is powered by its Shopping Graph, which contains more than 60 billion products. It also brings visual search, virtual try-on tools and YouTube videos into the shopping feed.

The feed will recommend fashion products and trends based on users’ preferences and activity across Google services. These recommendations will also use consent-based Web and App Activity and Search Personalisation data.

Users can virtually try on selected clothing items through their product pages to see how they look and drape before making a purchase. Google also plans to introduce daily outfit suggestions generated in advance through a future update.

The visual search feature allows shoppers to take a picture of an item or upload an existing image to discover similar products across the web. When users select a product, they can view details such as its colour, size and format. They can then visit the merchant’s website to complete the purchase.

How to access Discover Shop on Google Pay

Discover Shop is currently being tested with a select group of users in India. Users can check whether the feature is available by updating Google Pay and looking for the Discover icon at the bottom of the screen.

Access requires a personal Google Account, with Web and App Activity and Search Personalisation enabled. Google has not yet shared when the feature will become available to all users.
