Barclays has appointed Anita Tanna as its first Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer (Chief AI Officer), marking a key development in the bank’s efforts to expand AI adoption, drive digital innovation and generate business value through responsible implementation.
In her new role, Tanna will lead efforts to advance artificial intelligence across the organisation. Her focus will include identifying opportunities to improve customer and client experiences, enhance operational efficiency and support the group’s strategic priorities. She will also promote the responsible and effective use of AI across the bank.
Tanna takes on the newly created position after serving for nearly 3 years as Group Chief of Staff and Managing Director at Barclays. In this role, she worked closely with senior leaders across the organisation and gained extensive insight into the bank’s strategic direction and operational priorities.
Before this, she held several senior positions within Barclays Corporate & Investment Bank, including Head of Equity Sales, EMEA, and Head of Equity Sales, High Touch & Program Trading Execution Services.
Earlier in her career, Tanna spent nearly 12 years at Citi, where she held multiple leadership roles, including Head of Equity Sales, UK, Head of International Sales and Head of Global Sales. Her experience covers international capital markets, institutional client relationships and business leadership.
