Rajasthan Police have arrested a gym trainer from Maharashtra for his alleged role in a ₹2.12 crore digital arrest fraud targeting a retired Geological Survey of India official. The accused, identified as Ravindra Jitendra Prasad Singh, also known as Akshay Singh and Deva, is suspected of helping a cybercrime network manage banking details and move money linked to the alleged fraud.

According to police, the victim was targeted between August 9 and August 18, 2026, by individuals posing as police and government officials. They allegedly claimed he was connected to a money laundering case and pressured him to transfer money while keeping him on video calls.

Investigators said the fraudsters sent forged documents through WhatsApp and instructed the victim to remain on video calls with his live location enabled. The tactics allegedly made him believe he was under official investigation and had to follow their instructions.

On August 13, the victim transferred ₹2.02 crore to an ICICI Bank account after being told that the payment was required as part of the purported investigation. On August 18, he transferred another ₹10.10 lakh to a YES Bank account, taking the total alleged loss to ₹2.12 crore.

Police allege that Singh came into contact with cybercrime operators through a Telegram channel called BRO PAY. He is suspected of arranging accommodation in Ulhasnagar for another accused and using a separate SIM card and an alias to communicate with members of the network.

Investigators further allege that Singh handled SIM cards linked to bank accounts and cheque books used by the group. He is also accused of sharing banking details with associates through WhatsApp. Police suspect that the network moved money through multiple bank accounts to facilitate its operations.

Singh’s arrest is part of a wider investigation into the alleged fraud. Police have arrested 7 people in connection with the case so far.

Investigators are tracing the movement of funds and examining the roles of those suspected of providing banking and communication support. They are also looking into how impersonation, forged documents and sustained video calls were used to pressure the victim into transferring the money.
