Oppo has introduced ColorOS 17 in India and other global markets, bringing its latest Android 17-based operating system to compatible smartphones and tablets. Select devices from Oppo, OnePlus and Realme are expected to receive the update, with all 3 companies having previously announced compatible devices and rollout plans.
The update first debuted in China in September and introduces Oppo’s Living Flow Design, along with performance improvements and new AI tools.
New design and performance upgrades
ColorOS 17 features 3 key elements under Living Flow Design: Luminous Effect, Fluid Motion and Flexible Feedback. Luminous Effect adds softer, more transparent visuals and dynamic lighting to guide user attention. Fluid Motion allows interface elements to move and transform “from one state to the next”, creating a “sense of continuity” across the interface.
Flexible Feedback improves touch interactions by allowing buttons, toolbars and other elements to compress, stretch and rebound when tapped, giving the interface a more responsive feel.
The update also introduces a Unified Rendering Architecture built on the updated Luminous Rendering Engine. It combines separate rendering processes into a single pipeline to improve visual effects and transitions while reducing unnecessary operations.
Oppo claims the architecture can cut rendering loads by up to 30% and reduce RAM usage for rendering by up to 25% compared with Android 16-based ColorOS 16.
The upgraded Laminar Flow Engine, built on Oppo’s Adaptive Scheduling Architecture, aims to improve “system-level responsiveness”. The company claims it can improve app launch stability by 55% and increase Gallery thumbnail loading speed by up to 50%.
Expanded AI features and rollout
ColorOS 17 expands Oppo’s AI suite with a new Agent Mode, AI Photo Agent, an updated AI Mind Space and the new AI Mind Suggest.
The Oppo Find N6, Oppo Find X9 series, Oppo Pad 5 Pro, OnePlus 15, OnePlus Pad 4 and Realme GT 8 Pro series are among the first devices expected to receive the update. The rollout is scheduled to begin on October 29. The full release schedule has also been announced for compatible Oppo, OnePlus and Realme devices.
