Ericsson is strengthening India’s role in its global manufacturing network by increasing local production of antennas and other telecom equipment, with plans to export India-made products to Europe and other international markets for the first time.

On October 7, the Swedish telecom equipment manufacturer announced its plans at the 10th edition of India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2026. Since July 2025, the company has produced more than 15,000 antennas and 25 million components in India. Its antenna portfolio is designed to support 5G Standalone, AI-ready networks and future network developments.

The 4-day India Mobile Congress 2026 is being held from October 7 to October 10 at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi. The event is organised jointly by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI). Prime Minister Narendra Modi was expected to formally inaugurate the conference on October 8.

Ericsson first introduced its India-manufactured, export-ready antennas in 2025. Since then, it has continued to expand its local capabilities across sourcing, engineering, manufacturing and exports to serve customers in India and international markets.

As mobile networks evolve towards 5G Standalone, AI-driven operations and advanced network architectures, antennas are becoming increasingly important for improving network performance. Ericsson’s expansion also supports India’s efforts to strengthen domestic telecom manufacturing and establish the country as a global export hub for telecom equipment.

“India is an important part of Ericsson’s global innovation, engineering and manufacturing footprint. The production of more than 15,000 antennas and 25 million components shows how quickly this ecosystem is developing and the contribution it can make both in India and globally. Together with our partners, we are developing the capabilities needed for the next generation of high-performing, energy-efficient and AI-ready networks,” said Andres Vicente, CEO, Southeast Asia, Oceania and India, Ericsson, at the company’s booth during IMC 2026.

“We are building an end-to-end antenna ecosystem that combines local sourcing and manufacturing with Ericsson’s global engineering capabilities. As networks become more intelligent and programmable, antenna performance will be increasingly important in getting the most from spectrum, sites and network investments. Expanding these capabilities in India strengthens both our ability to serve customers locally and India’s contribution to Ericsson’s global operations,” said Mikael Eriksson, Head of Ericsson Antenna System, Ericsson, in a statement.

Ericsson’s antenna systems are designed to help communication service providers improve coverage and capacity, enhance uplink performance, use spectrum more efficiently and reduce energy consumption. The expanding portfolio also supports the transition towards intelligent, programmable and energy-efficient networks.

The company said it will continue to develop its antenna ecosystem in India by advancing local engineering, manufacturing and export capabilities while helping communication service providers build high-performing, energy-efficient and future-ready networks.
