Andhra Pradesh is stepping up its fight against cybercrime with a new Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (C4) in Vijayawada. State DGP Harish Kumar Gupta inaugurated the facility at the NTR Police Commissionerate’s Krishna Lanka police station on Wednesday.
The centre has been set up on the 3rd floor of the police station with support from the AP Police Housing Corporation. It was developed under the guidance of NTR Police Commissioner SV Rajasekhara Babu and supervised by Cyber Crime DCP K Krishna Prasanna and Cyber Crime ACP Bhanu Prakash Reddy.
Speaking at the inauguration, Gupta described cybercrime as a serious challenge for the state, similar to the threat posed by drugs. He said the government is bringing in a Cyber Guard Policy to strengthen action against cyber offences.
The state is also preparing to establish a cyber war room. Similar C4 centres and specialised teams will be created in every district, with 20 cyber constables planned for each district.
Gupta urged victims to report cyber offences immediately. He said people should call “1930” without delay to register complaints through the National Cyber Crime Helpline or use the cybercrime portal.
Rajasekhara Babu said the C4 centre will examine information from a victim’s complaint through to the suspected offender’s trail. The centre will use available evidence to prevent cyber offences and support victims in getting justice.
He also said recovery of property and cash in cybercrime cases has increased to 5% from 2% over the past 2 years. A dedicated cyber SI will also be appointed at every police station to handle cybercrime complaints and investigations.
