A new AI agent from Meta is designed to handle tasks on behalf of users, from browsing websites and filling forms to sending emails and making purchases. Called Muse, the agent can continue working in the background and use information from past conversations to understand user preferences and goals.
How does Muse work?
Muse is built to operate more like an agent than a traditional chatbot. Users can describe what they want to achieve, and Muse can create a plan, manage the required steps and continue working without needing instructions for every action.
The agent operates through Muse Secure VM, a dedicated virtual machine with its own browser. It keeps the agent and user data within the virtual machine while allowing Muse to search websites, navigate pages, complete forms and carry out online transactions.
Muse can keep working even after the user closes the app. It can track longer tasks and return when something changes or when user approval is required. Its memory can also persist across conversations, helping it retain information about goals and preferences.
Users can access Muse through its dedicated app or WhatsApp. They can also connect services including email, calendar and Instagram.
What can Muse do?
Muse can handle tasks such as booking travel, sending emails and completing online forms. For longer goals, it can divide the work into smaller tasks and track progress.
It can browse the web and make purchases, but sensitive actions require user approval. An activity log shows completed actions and planned steps.
Muse can also create documents, PDFs, webpages and interactive outputs.
For shopping, Muse can use Link, Stripe’s payment service. Link generates a one-time card number at checkout, keeping the user’s actual card details hidden. Support for Shop Pay and 1Password is planned.
Users control which apps Muse can access and the permissions it receives. These permissions can be changed or services disconnected at any time. Users can also ask Muse to forget information it has learned.
Muse availability
Muse is rolling out in the US on iOS, Android and the web through muse.ai. It is also coming to AI glasses. The agent is free for most uses, while subscription plans will be offered for users who want to do more.
Meta has not yet announced availability details for India.
