Apple’s expected entry into the foldable smartphone segment could bring another major expense for buyers beyond the device’s premium price. A new estimate suggests that replacing the inner display of the company’s first foldable iPhone could cost more than $1,000. Apple has not officially confirmed the device or its specifications.

Inner display repair could cross $1,000

According to a report citing Ricky Panesar, founder of UK-based repair company iCorrect, the inner screen replacement could cost around GBP 850, or roughly Rs. 1,10,000. The estimate, shared with Forbes, translates to approximately $1,155, or around Rs. 1,10,200.

If accurate, the repair could be significantly more expensive than recent foldable phones from Samsung. An inner-screen replacement for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is reportedly priced at around GBP 594, or Rs. 76,800, while the Galaxy Z Fold 7 repair costs around GBP 569, or Rs. 73,600.

The higher repair cost could be linked to Apple’s reported hardware approach. Samsung Display is expected to supply the foldable panel, while Apple could develop its own hinge mechanism. Panesar believes this combination could make the device more expensive to repair than Samsung’s foldable models.

Foldable iPhone may cost around $2,000

The upcoming handset has been referred to as the iPhone Ultra or iPhone Fold in reports. It is expected to start at around $2,000, or approximately Rs. 1,90,900. Apple has not confirmed the name or price.

The foldable iPhone is reportedly expected to be unveiled at Apple’s September 9 event at Apple Park in Cupertino, California. The company has named the event “Surprise and Shine”. The iPhone 18 series is also expected to be announced.

While the foldable could be revealed in September, some reports suggest sales may begin in October instead of immediately after the launch event.

Apple is expected to stream the event on YouTube, its Apple Events website and the Apple TV app. Until the company officially announces the device, its final name, pricing, availability and repair costs remain unconfirmed.
