A new wearable from Fitbit co-founders James Park and Eric Friedman is taking a different approach to personal technology, focusing less on fitness tracking and more on helping families stay connected with their loved ones.

The duo has launched Luffu Link, a screenless health and safety band from Luffu, a company they started earlier this year. The device is available for preorder at $249.99 and is expected to retail for $299.99 when it launches in the US in early 2027.

Park and Friedman founded Fitbit in 2007, which was acquired by Google in 2019. Their new venture is built partly around their experiences as caregivers and their view that health and care often involve entire families rather than individuals.

Luffu Link tracks activity, sleep and heart rate. Users can also record symptoms, medications, meals, mood and reminders through voice commands. The device includes GPS and LTE, allowing it to share a user’s location and contact trusted people even when a phone is not nearby.

A double press can send a check-in to selected family members, while users can request help directly through the device. LTE connectivity is included without requiring a separate carrier plan.

The band can last up to 5 days on a charge and will be offered in Halo Gold, Onyx Black and Sterling Blue.

Luffu Link is part of a broader platform that brings family health and safety information together through the company’s app. AI will help organize information, identify patterns and highlight important changes. Luffu says families will decide what information is shared and with whom. The company also says the device records voice only when the wearer presses and holds its main button.

The Luffu app is currently in public beta and is expected to become widely available in the US later this year.

The company is also developing a home device designed to help families coordinate care across multiple households. Further details are expected later this year.
