YouTube brings Amazon product tagging to eligible US creators

YouTube is expanding its creator monetisation tools in the US by adding Amazon to its Shopping Affiliate Program. Eligible creators can now tag Amazon products across Shorts, long-form videos and livestreams, allowing viewers to discover featured products while giving creators an opportunity to earn commissions.

Amazon products come to YouTube Shopping

The integration allows eligible US creators to connect product recommendations with their content. To use the feature, creators must be part of the YouTube Partner Program and the YouTube Shopping affiliate programme in the US. They also need an active Amazon Influencer Program or Amazon Associates Program account linked to their YouTube channel.

Creators with access can use YouTube Studio’s product picker to add eligible Amazon products. If a desired product is unavailable, they can contact Creator Support. It also offers auto-tagging, which can scan recent uploads and identify eligible Amazon products when enabled.

Creators can monitor product clicks and estimated earnings through YouTube Studio Analytics. Finalised Amazon commissions are paid through the creator’s existing AdSense account along with other YouTube affiliate earnings. Payments follow a monthly cycle. For example, commissions finalised in January are paid during the March AdSense payment cycle.

International sales and returns

It can match Amazon product tags with trusted local merchant offers when viewers outside the US purchase products. This can allow creators to earn commissions on eligible international sales. If a suitable local offer is unavailable, viewers may be directed to the Amazon US storefront or another relevant local storefront.

Returns are also considered when calculating earnings. If a tagged product is returned, the related commission can be deducted from the creator’s balance. If this creates a negative balance, the amount carries forward to the next monthly payment cycle until the balance becomes positive.

Creators must ensure tagged content follows YouTube’s product tagging guidelines, Community Guidelines and paid product placement policy.
