Public transport navigation has started appearing in Apple Maps for users in India, bringing the platform’s Transit feature to the country. The rollout was independently verified, although it has not officially announced the availability and India is still missing from its public list of regions supporting Transit.
Transit brings public transport details to Apple Maps
Transit allows users to find public transport routes for supported services, including departure and arrival times, connections and, in some regions, fare details.
The feature can also show service disruptions and real-time locations of buses and trains. Users can receive alerts when they approach their stop and view nearby departures through the Transit Nearby option.
Apple Maps also allows users to plan journeys around a specific departure or arrival time and pin frequently used transit lines for quick access. A dedicated Transit map mode displays major public transport lines.
Transit payments available in select regions
In some regions and with selected transport systems, Transit also supports payments. Depending on the system, users can pay through Apple Pay, add a compatible transit card to Apple Wallet or use the transport operator’s app.
The India rollout was reported by a contributing researcher in a post on X and was later independently verified. However, it has yet to make an official announcement.
India also remains absent from Apple’s public Transit availability page despite the feature being accessible in Apple Maps in the country.
Other Apple Maps updates
Earlier this year, iOS 27 introduced changes to Apple Maps, including an enhanced Flyover experience that combines aerial imagery with AI to provide more detailed city views.
Apple also launched Local Lists in the US, offering curated recommendations for restaurants, family-friendly locations and other places based on local trends.
