CAG and IIT Madras launch Certification on Audit of Digital Systems (CADS)

The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) and Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) have launched the Certification on Audit of Digital Systems (CADS). Curated by a Supreme Audit Institution, this global initiative aims to build capacity for auditing Digital Public Infrastructure, AI, and enterprise platforms.Shri K. Sanjay Murthy, Comptroller and Auditor General of India, launched the Foundation-level certification today at the IIT Madras campus via SWAYAM Plus, alongside Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras.

Addressing the event, Shri Murthy said, “As government becomes increasingly digital, our audit must be capable of giving assurances on the robustness of the systems. For this Department, that capability is central to discharging our constitutional mandate and add value to the efforts of good governance. CADS will, in time, be a mandatory requirement for officers auditing digital systems.”

The four-month online programme, aligned with NEP 2020 and NCrF, is open to undergraduates and professionals nationwide. Jointly designed by experts from CAG, IIT Madras, and IITM Pravartak, the curriculum covers Public Audit, IT, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Digital Platforms & Privacy, and AI. Assessments will be conducted via in-person proctored tests.

The event also featured the distribution of course completion certificates to CAG officials trained in AI and Cybersecurity, showcasing technology-driven field audit applications. Designed as a three-tier pathway (Foundation, Proficient, Expert), CADS will later expand to international participants.
