India to host 12th BRICS Communications Ministers Meeting on August 21

India is set to bring communications ministers and senior officials from BRICS member countries together on August 21 for discussions on the future of digital cooperation. The 12th BRICS Communications Ministers Meeting will be held under India’s BRICS Chairship and chaired by Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya M Scindia.

The meeting will focus on cooperation in Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), digital transformation, innovation and resilient digital infrastructure. It will follow India’s overarching BRICS theme, “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”, while the ICT Track will focus on “Innovate, Cooperate and Transform (ICT) for a Resilient Future.”

Key discussions will cover emerging technologies, Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), future networks, cybersecurity, capacity building and inclusive digital connectivity. BRICS countries will also exchange views and best practices on digital transformation, with a focus on practical cooperation and strengthening digital capabilities across BRICS and the wider Global South.

During its BRICS Chairship, India has prioritised cooperation in resilient digital infrastructure, future networks, cybersecurity, DPI, innovation and capacity building. The Department of Telecommunications has also led discussions through the BRICS Working Group for Cooperation in ICTs, including proposals for BRICS Capacity Building Centres and stronger collaboration on emerging technologies.

The meeting will build on the 11th BRICS Communications Ministers Meeting held under Brazil’s Chairship in 2025, which stressed continued cooperation in ICTs, digital public infrastructure and global digital governance.

As part of the programme, Scindia will brief the media on the discussions and key outcomes. He will also visit the Digital BRICS Forum Expo, which will showcase digital technologies, innovations and solutions for the BRICS ecosystem. The Expo will highlight India’s technological capabilities and support knowledge exchange among participating countries and stakeholders.

The meeting is expected to strengthen digital cooperation and support a more resilient, inclusive, secure and sustainable digital future.
