Columbia Group has established its first Global Capability Centre (GCC) in India, with Team One Architects (TOA) designing and delivering the 20,000 sq ft facility at Mindspace Business Park, Navi Mumbai. The centre can accommodate 220 employees and will serve as an operational and digital hub supporting the group’s global activities.

Navi Mumbai was chosen for its Grade-A commercial infrastructure, connectivity and business ecosystem. The facility supports Columbia Group’s entry into India by combining the country’s maritime talent base with its digital capabilities. TOA provided workplace strategy, design development and turnkey execution services.

The centre features acoustically designed focus zones, video conferencing-enabled meeting rooms and modular layouts that allow phased expansion. Built around the ‘Resilient Collaboration’ concept, the workspace uses biophilic elements, wave-inspired spatial transitions and neutral and blue tones to support hybrid working.

Technology is also central to the facility, with sensor-based lighting, digital room-booking systems, access controls and IT infrastructure designed for round-the-clock coordination across time zones.

TOA director Aditya Yamsanwar said Global Capability Centres have evolved beyond transactional workplaces into strategic hubs supporting collaboration, operational excellence and growth. “Our focus was on creating a workspace that is flexible, people-centric, and aligned with the realities of global maritime operations,” he said.

Columbia Group deputy CEO Demetris Chrysostomou said workplace design can influence productivity and employee engagement. “This GCC was designed to inspire and motivate our teams while delivering the technology, amenities, and operational readiness required for a globally connected organisation,” he said.

Headquartered in Mumbai, TOA also has offices in Pune, Hyderabad and Bengaluru. The firm has 25 years of experience and has delivered more than 100 lakh sq ft of commercial space for clients across more than 50 global cities.
