India has intensified its fight against cybercrime by establishing Joint Cybercrime Coordination Teams (JCCTs) in 7 cybercrime hotspots, including Jamtara in Jharkhand and Mewat in Haryana. The initiative, led by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), is designed to improve coordination between states in tracking and investigating cybercrime cases.
Responding to a written question in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar said the 7 JCCTs have been set up in Jamtara, Mewat, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Visakhapatnam and Guwahati. These centres focus on cybercrime hotspots and regions with multi-jurisdictional challenges, enabling law enforcement agencies across states and Union Territories to share information more efficiently.
Under the JCCT framework, state police exchange details such as the names, residential addresses and mobile numbers of suspected cybercriminals, along with case information, to speed up investigations and coordinated action.
The minister also highlighted the impact of the Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System (CFCFRMS), launched by I4C in 2021. According to the government, the platform has helped prevent fraud worth more than Rs. 11,158 crore by acting on 32.8 lakh complaints.
Between 2021 and 2025, the national cyber fraud helpline 1930 received nearly 66 lakh financial fraud complaints involving more than Rs. 55,000 crore. During this period, authorities marked Rs. 8,189 crore under lien and registered 1.9 lakh FIRs.
The government also shared updates on I4C’s Pratibimb module, which helps law enforcement agencies map cybercriminal locations and identify cybercrime infrastructure while providing techno-legal support. The platform has assisted in the arrest of more than 29,837 accused and supported over 2.3 lakh cyber investigation assistance requests.
The latest measures reflect the government’s continued efforts to strengthen cybercrime enforcement through better coordination, faster investigations and improved technology-driven policing.
