Samsung Electronics has announced the creation of a dedicated robotics division that will report directly to the company’s Chief Executive Officer. The move is aimed at accelerating robotics development and commercialization while establishing the business as a key future growth engine.
Named the RX (Robotics eXperience) division, the new unit will oversee Samsung’s mid-to-long-term robotics strategy, core technology development, and business execution. It will also expand the company’s robotics research capabilities across domestic and international markets.
Samsung has appointed Executive Vice President Lee Dongkun to lead the Robotics Strategy Team. Before joining Samsung in this role, Lee led robotics strategy at Hyundai Motor Group, where he was responsible for shaping the direction of Boston Dynamics.
As part of its global expansion plans, Samsung will establish robotics research hubs in the US, China, and Japan. The company aims to strengthen its competitiveness by leveraging local technology ecosystems, research expertise, and innovation capabilities in these markets.
The announcement builds on Samsung’s broader robotics strategy. During its January earnings conference call, the company said it expected to achieve “tangible” results in its humanoid robotics business during the year. In April, Samsung also stated that it would pursue investments and acquisitions where needed to accelerate robotics development and commercialization while collaborating with local companies on technology innovation.
Samsung believes advances in technologies such as physical AI are making robotics increasingly practical for commercial use. The company plans to develop humanoid robots to improve productivity and user experience, with initial deployments in manufacturing facilities before expanding into home and retail environments.
