Cybercrime continues to pose a major challenge in Telangana, with 21,639 cybercrime FIRs registered out of 86,177 major crime FIRs in 2025. Officials informed Director-General of Police C.V. Anand during a review of the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) that cyber frauds caused financial losses of Rs. 1,524 crore, accounting for 1 in every 4 major crime cases in the state.
Despite the scale of cybercrime, officials reported a 20% reduction in cyber fraud losses compared to 2024. However, the DGP cautioned that digital financial crimes remain a serious concern.
“Cyber frauds are pushing many families into severe financial distress, with victims losing their lifetime savings,” the DGP said, urging police personnel to strengthen their technological skills and cyber investigation capabilities.
The review highlighted Telangana’s leading position in cybercrime enforcement. Of the 49,620 cybercrime FIRs registered across the country in 2025, 21,639 were from Telangana, representing 44% of the national total.
The state achieved a 78% FIR conversion rate in cyber fraud cases involving losses above Rs. 75 lakh, while the conversion rate stood at 56% for cases involving losses exceeding Rs. 1 lakh.
Officials also said the amount frozen in fraudsters’ bank accounts increased from Rs. 255 crore in 2024 to Rs. 279 crore in 2025. The proportion of fraud money placed on hold improved from 9% to 12%, while cybercrime complaints declined by 3% to 91,369 during the year.
During the review, the DGP inspected the TGCSB’s Cyber Lab, Security Operations Centre, Central Monitoring Unit, Social Media Unit, Child Protection Unit and Digital Forensic Unit. A demonstration of the Bureau’s AI-powered Cyber Call Centre showed how the system instantly collected a victim’s details after a cyber fraud complaint and simultaneously alerted the concerned police station.
TGCSB Director Shikha Goel and senior officers presented updates on cybercrime trends, investigation methods, victim support systems and future plans.
The DGP also urged citizens to report cyber fraud immediately through the 1930 helpline or the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal and advised people never to share OTPs, passwords or banking credentials with unknown individuals.
