Zomato is testing an AI-powered voice bot that enables users to order food through voice conversations, as the company continues to expand its use of generative AI across its platform. The feature is currently being piloted for a limited number of users in select areas of Bengaluru.

The voice bot allows users to discuss what they would like to eat and provides personalised food recommendations based on the conversation. The feature is described as, “Conversation mode. Ordering made easy with a voice bot that understands you.”

The latest pilot is part of Zomato’s broader AI strategy. In 2023, the company introduced an AI chatbot to recommend dishes and restaurants. In 2025, it also launched Nugget, its AI-native, no-code customer support platform that enables businesses to deploy AI agents for handling customer queries and improving support operations.

Earlier this year, Zomato partnered with Google to introduce restaurant reservations through Google’s AI Mode, further expanding its AI-powered customer experience.

Last week, the company revealed that its internal logistics team already uses a voice bot to assist delivery partners throughout the order process. Zomato also said its in-house AI evaluation tool, Gavel, has reduced the cost of evaluating voice bot calls by 98%, lowering the cost to ₹10 per call from ₹450 when reviewed by a human evaluator.

The AI voice bot pilot comes alongside several new customer-focused initiatives. Last month, Zomato launched Healthy Subscriptions, allowing users to schedule healthy meals from partner restaurants. The company has also reduced the free delivery threshold for Gold members from ₹199 to ₹99 and expanded its range of affordable meal options, including meals priced below ₹250.

By investing in AI-driven services and enhancing its platform, Zomato aims to strengthen its position in India’s food delivery market, which is projected to grow into a $46 billion opportunity by 2034.
