Apple reportedly reassesses iPhone 17 production amid rising hardware costs

Fresh reports suggest Apple is reviewing its production strategy for the upcoming iPhone 17 as increasing hardware costs continue to put pressure on the smartphone industry. A new leak claims the company could further reduce manufacturing capacity for the standard iPhone 17 after reassessing expected market demand.

According to a tipster, Apple may suspend nearly 1/3 of the production capacity on some manufacturing lines dedicated to the standard iPhone 17. However, it remains unclear whether the reported reduction affects overall production or only selected assembly lines. Apple has not officially confirmed these claims.

The report also suggests that Apple has conducted an internal review to evaluate how rising component prices could influence demand for its next-generation smartphone. Higher costs for key hardware parts are reportedly prompting the company to adjust its production plans ahead of the device’s launch.

The global shortage of memory and storage components has increased manufacturing costs across the electronics industry, largely driven by growing demand from AI infrastructure. Apple has already increased prices for products such as Macs, iPads, Apple TV devices and HomePod speakers due to higher component costs, while iPhone pricing has remained unchanged so far.

Earlier reports indicated that Apple had already lowered its iPhone 17 production expectations by around 15%. The latest report suggests the company could now make additional production cuts if demand for the entry-level model weakens.

Previous leaks have also claimed that Apple may increase iPhone prices when it introduces its next-generation Pro models later this year. The company is further expected to adopt a split launch strategy, with the iPhone 18 Pro models arriving first, followed later by the standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and iPhone Air 2.
